SUBJECT: Restructuring of the Commission on Women and Gender Equity

Attached is a recommendation from the Chair of the Commission.  I support the recommendation and would like to proceed in accordance with it.

Therefore, unless you have objections, we will develop a list of new members consistent with the restructuring and provide it for your approval and appointment to the commission.

TO: Dana Hiatt, Director, Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity

FROM: Cathy Kennedy, Chair, President’s Commission on Women and Gender Equity

SUBJECT: Committee Membership Proposed Change

Dear Dana,

Due to the significant changes to the diversity structure at Colorado State University, I believe that we need to reconsider the membership of this commission.  My recommendations would include maintaining a twelve member committee but reducing the number of standing members from six to four and increasing the at-large members from six to eight.  This proposal does not impact any of our current members.

The rationale behind this is to include broader representation from each classification of employees at Colorado State University.  This proposal would allow committee participation of at-large members to be comprised of two tenured track Faculty, two Administration Professionals, two State Classified and two Students.

The current standing members that would be affected are the representatives from the Provost Office and the Office of the President.  The Provost Office diversity liaison position no longer exists as Sandra Wood is no the interim-dean of the College of Engineering.  Ri Romero is no longer in the Office of the President.  I believe your current position seems to adequately represent the President’s Office.

Thank you for your consideration of this recommended restructure.  I look forward to working with you during the up coming year.
