Update for Fall 2016 Center for Women and Gender Research Newsletter

The Commission on Women and Gender Equity had a productive Spring 2016 semester.  Members created 8 recommendations to submit to the President, all of which help better the University for women.  The Commission is looking forward to the fall semester and will continue their work of creating recommendations for the President in areas such as improving culture and climate for women, improving assistance offered to employees and evaluating issues that undergraduate women face.  To view updates and submitted recommendations, visit the Commission’s website at www.cwge.colostate.edu.

Spring 2016 Update for Center on Women and Gender Research Newsletter

Fall 2015 was a busy and productive semester for the President’s Commission on Women and Gender Equity (CWGE).  Our call for membership applications resulted in the addition of 7 new members to the Commission who eagerly got to work on our various initiatives and projects which include:

  • Funding the SafeWalk program key tags
  • Working with graduate students and the Graduate School on a campus climate survey that will be administered by the Graduate School this spring
  • Providing funding for our leadership subcommittee to nominate and send two CSU employees to the HERS institute in Denver this summer

The Standing Committee on the Status of Women Faculty, an independently functioning branch of the Commission that focuses on faculty issues, has been extremely productive this year working on salary equity, an NSF Advance Grant, parental leave policies, a new faculty Ombuds position, and creating campus climate focus groups for faculty that will be conducted this spring semester.

The Standing Committee on Communications, a branch of the Commission, continues to work with the Public Safety Communications Team and the Public Safety Team on timely and clear communications to the campus community.  The Commission also have a representative on the Child Care Task Force, which has taken on the effort to provide lactation rooms across campus.

Looking to 2016, the Commisison will work with APC and CPC to understand how the Commission can help improve campus climate for all CSU employees and will also assist with the launch of the Graduate School climate survey, the results of which will help map out future Commission action.  Recognizing that undergraduate students’ campus experiences depend on their specific college and program of study, Sue James, the CWGE Chair, will reach out to the undergraduate administrators in each college to begin to understand how the Commission might work on women and gender issues important to our undergraduate students.  Finally, the Commission will continue to support the work and activities of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women Faculty and the Standing Committee on Communications.  Updates on the work of the Commission can be found at: www.cwge.colostate.edu
